Family and Education

Family and Education Component Specialist provide monthly training on parenting curriculum (Conscious Discipline) to the parents via Zoom or in-person. They provide activities that can be completed at home with the children and encourage extended participation to enhance child's educational learning experience.

Father Involvment

NADC Head Start/ABC is aware of the importance of involving fathers in our day to day classroom activities as well as involving them in their own children’s lives.

  • We have fathers that attend the monthly parent meetings and hold an office for the group.

  • We have fathers who attend Policy Council on a regular basis and hold an office there as well.

  • We have fathers who volunteer in the classroom, reading to children, helping them with chores and monitoring outside play.

  • We have fathers and grandfathers who come to the classrooms to eat a meal with the children.

  • We have fathers who attend health/education conferences and are involved in the decision making process for their child.

Transition

The NADC Head Start/ABC program has several ways to prepare children and parents with a smooth transition to kindergarten. We give out email address arkedu.state.ar.us/ for the “Kindergarten Readiness” Calendars and Indicator Checklist at enrollment to each parent of four year old children. These calendars have very good information to help inform parents how to help get their child ready for kindergarten. We hold a kindergarten transition parent meeting at each center in April before they start to kindergarten in the fall. Kindergarten teachers, school counselors and principles are invited to attend. Some of our centers take a trip to the local school they will be attending and tour the classrooms and eat lunch in the cafeteria with the other children. The bus drivers let the children tour the buses and talks with them about bus safety.

Before kindergarten registration begins a packet is sent to the school with a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, social security card and current dental and physical.
